Thing that I'd really wanna see with all this change is that we have the least amount of change in the frontend department, such as thing relevant to the framework. The way we edit today should be more or less present in the new framework to ease the transition for editors. As too big a change, especially to an old system that takes a lot more time than the current, that could make editors lose the will to edit and we can't have that.

I for one have used the current template for a long time and I can make good missions in 30 minutes if I have to, and that's something I'm gonna need with me in the new framework to be able to pick up the slack when the new framework drops and our replay list is .. gone.

I hope we can implement guzzens GW mod without the ACE settings and keep that system of editing available to the players. Possibly even the Gear stuff, and that should bring all relevant "editor" parts with us from the old to the new, as well as all the nice admin / player tools that we use on a "daily" basis.

It looks like we're going for these changes, it will be long process but it begins soon.

Yeah that's true, I think for new recruits that's the issue though, and possibly transition from what they're used to which is Workshop to our A3Sync makes us seem like boomers! The reason you say though is the reason for change of modset too, but I can't confirm that, I believe most people use RHS for their main modset and then shift out other mods in campaigns, this is at least the way Orev runs his group, and I hope with this change, there will be even less need for adjustment when we do decide to try a joint coop

The intention is to not change until we've run out of all replays. Meaning there will be a moment when we run our last mission with the old mods and the old framework, and after that, we're running the new one together with the new mods. It will sting any way to form it I believe if we do plan to change, but I wanna make sure we do what filth suggests, take thing slowly.

Thanks for posting your thoughts, we really are in no rush, this is a change for the future, and that future could be 4-8 months away. It all depends on our technical team for the framework and how many replays we have left. Much testing is also needed so, yeah quite a lot of things will have to be tested and thought out, so nobody worry about time, it's far away

POLLS FOUND AT THE BOTTOM IN THE NEXT TWO POSTS

Hey GOL dudes, I'm here to ask a question of what we should do with the modset for the future. I've been talking to a few and there's a few ideas on how we can minimize the size of our addons pack and increase variety at the same time. There's two things I'd like to explain, first off which is that I'm considering a change of how we setup our mods, going after Steam Workshop will give everyone the best download speeds and we'll have a easier system to get rid of temporary mods and run joint coops with other groups.

So the first poll is just for that, what your ideas are regarding this change, I'm gonna post the pros and cons of what I believe this will give us and take from us, you can feel free to comment if you have other pointers that should be considered.

Switching to Steam Workshop / Arma 3 Launcher.

    Pros:
    Faster download speeds
    Automatic Updates for Players
    No third party program

    Easier management of Collections (Modpacks)
Easier to switch mods out for Joint Coops

    Cons:

No control of updates of mods
We have to adjust to a new system
Manual updates have to be maintained on the server (Players automatically download updates, Server does not)

    Switching to RHS Based Modset.

Second poll is about the modset itself, what it's content should be. I've been looking at sizes together with Blu. who has suggested a switch to RHS focused modset, getting rid of CUP Vehicles, Units & Weapons. Our current modpack is 56Gb, it's huge compared to other groups and we believe it could also have an impact on how many people join this group. We're outdated and encumbered, this change should help with reducing the size of the modset. The results is basically this calculation

    Current Mods 56GB

    - 5Gb CUP Units
    - 9.5Gb CUP Vehicles

    - 5.5Gb CUP Weapons

    - 3Gb CUP Terrains - CWA
    - 23Gb Total

    + RHSGREF 2.7Gb
    + Project OPFOR 1,6Gb

    + Project BLUFOR 0.9Gb

    + NIArms All In 1 3.9Gb

    + 3CB Weapons 1.3Gb
    + RKSL Studios- Attachments 0.1Gb

    + 10.5Gb Total

    Reduced size: 12.5Gb
    New Modset Size: 44.5Gb

Now you might think we're gonna lose variety switching to this smaller modset, that's not actually true I believe. What the actual submods of RHS do are reskin of existing weapons, plus also mixing in another third party mod that covers most modern firearms. The addition of NIArms give us all that CUP already gives us but mostly better. There's still some low quality stuff that we can put on the AI for better performance as well which is important. As you can see below, the additional factions that we get pretty much cover all that we get from CUP.

A few sidenotes on this that I feel was important for me, there's light vehicles PKM Pickups UAZs, Landrovers and Technicals which we really needed from CUP when it was reintroduced. Another issue we've had in RHS is that there's no middle ground of Armor, this is fixed here as T-34 and T-55 tanks are also present in these mods. It's not a magic pill though, there are drawbacks to this, all the factions below, all have their own uniforms, usually their own weapons and kit, but vehicles are something that is simply reskinned to reuse a few vehicles on many of these factions.

However, in terms of balance and different mission types, I'd say we won't lose any notable parts of our variety. Another thing with changing to this Modset is that most units follow the RHS pattern, meaning joint COOPs might be easier to manage without having to add an additional modset on top of ours for when we play those sessions.

Final Point: This is only for the future, this is for when our new framework is up and running and we are free to update ACE and TFAR and all our mods to the latest versions. Meaning we won't lose missions because we'll run out before we make the switch, so we'll start a new when that happens, and I hope you feel the same way.

    Process for all this:
Work out the new template from Neko-Arrow
    Test RHS damage models
    Test new ACE and TFAR
    Test Steam Workshop Modset

Once template and testing is done, we make the call to cutoff, start making missions with the new framework and play Replays until we run out.
Run new missions or Zeus Missions to build up a replay list.

    Welcome to GOL 2021

Hey friends & loved ones, I'm gonna write down a thread here to announce some changes that we have made in the organizational structure of the group. As most of you have seen our 1IC Mr.Pilgrim has resigned and will be taking some well-needed time off, with that confirmed we've had to quickly setup who will take over, and as you probabably guessed by the fact that I'm posting this, I've been selected to run this show until we find someone better. With that, I want to just make sure you all know, GOL does not stop, we'll continue playing and we'll continue developing as time goes by.

    Organizationally these are the changes:
    Lieutenant Oksman (1IC)

    Sergeant Joe O'Malley (2IC)

    Sergeant ThecMaster (3IC)

In the future we will consider reorganizing the Junior NCO Corps as well, with possible removal of NCOs and additions.

I believe most of you have been in the meeting that we discussed this or joined the debrief yesterday (18th Feb 21) so you should already have the Trello-board link, however if you missed it last night for any reason here it is. This is the new way this group will be organized, it's a system that most companies use to easily distribute tasks and schedule deadlines, and I'm hoping that this tool with allow us to manage more easily, as the time sink to check up on the latest activities will be much shorter.

Most of the editors and the NCOs / Council members are already linked in with their accounts, and I appreciate that they are willing to accept this change, as it will make my life easier in the near future. You who are not involved in leadership or any administrative duties, you are still able to see this board, so you may see the process that we NCOs & Admins have to go through to deliver the gameplay we do. I hope this will help you appreciate what these guys do for you as a player.

I'm probably leaving something out that I have forgotten but here it is, the MAIN POINT here is that we will still continue, we'll still strive towards improvement, and most of all, play the game and have fun as a group. I hope you trust me to do what I can to make your stay here better, and if you wish to send me feedback, you're free to do so on the forums or steam. Let me know if there's something you want to see changed or perhaps something you feel is missing from our board!

Thank you for reading, I hope you are excited for the future because I am!

Interesting might wanna give it a shot, only got a pretty simple hotas stick though Thrustmaster Hotas, not sure if it qualifies. And no track IR sadly :D
