Subject: ZV-99 Light Mortar
Subject Overview:
This week we demonstrated and tested a new mod addition, the ZV-99 Light Mortar by Pabst Mirror released on the Steam workshop back in 2018.
Described as a "quickly deployable commando mortar carried by a single soldier" we go over its deployment, ranging and charge types.
Thoughts:
We start the training with a quick description of the mortar and its available round types. The ZV99 can be carried in your inventories launcher slot and comes with 5 ammo types, explosive (impact and proximity), smoke (red and white) and a white flare. The mod creator has been kind enough to add an ammo crate to the editor asset menu with all of the above inside ready to go, just search for "99" in the objects menu and you'll find it.
The mortar itself is deployed using ACE interaction, round and charge selection also uses this method though to actually load your selection you must hit your reload key.
Ranging the ZV99 is done via a rear facing fluid level which displays two separate range meters (0 to 1235m), one for each charge type. The trajectory of your round can be adjusted by moving your mouse up and down with the fluid level showing the approximate range. Its worth noting that while inside the ZV99 you're not able to bring up your compass, this as well as the lack of a inbuilt azimuth display makes accurate targeting on the ZV99 a challenge.
The 60mm explosive rounds will make short work of any infantry or light vehicles unlucky enough to be under its barrage.
The mortar could play an important role in filling the gap between heavier and somewhat slower style mortar support used in ARMA i.e. the Mk6 and the faithful short range .203s of the clans teamleaders and grenadiers. I'm happy to report that during our latest operation the ZV99 was put to use and feedback while brief was positive, we hope to develop this new relationship into something explosive
